Best of the Harry Potter series so far. It was a lot darker, more urgency to the plot.
And to counter peoples reactions to the character changes or lack of character changes, this book was Dumbledores swansong. The very end of the book was the best bit of writing Rowling has done. Even better than the end of GOF. If Rowling had spent more time developing the characters other than Harry himself. Then it would have distracted the plot away from Dumbledores demise and the setting up of book 7. The Romance therefore could be seen to be padding the story out. However they behaved just like most teenagers do, in so far as that however mature Hermione may seem, she still has a lot to learn about the real world, outside of Hogwarts.
Harry however has learned a hell of a lot about the world outside of Hogwarts.
Overall this book works perfectly, plot wise and the most important thing of all, it has hit peoples emotions in different ways. From those that dislike the snogging all the way to the horrible nature of Dumbledores death and the bittersweet funeral. To Harry declaring that he now has a mission to do and that he can not learn anything more from Hogwarts as a student.
