Ah the DSG group how i hate it. They have Xbox 360 core's online with 5 games for the grand price of £479.99. Like i'm going to pay that much for a games console. I may just get a new ipod and forget about the xbox 360 until after easter. I've got a HD ready tv, pretty much useless without an Xbox 360. The dvd player i've got upscales dvds to 720p, but it's not really high definition.
I fucking hate Microshite for releasing the Xbox 360, without actually building up enough stock piles of the consoles first.
Sony will probably win the next generation console war. Blu-Ray will probably be the deciding factor. Microsoft might release an Xbox 360 with a HD-DVD drive for films, but thats about it.
Geek rant of the day over with.
iPod or new PC hrm.

Haaaaving said that, only time will tell. My mate has a 360 and it's a great piece of kit, but it will be the games that make or break it. So far, with the exception of maybe Condemned and PGR3, there has been nothing about it which grabs me by the balls. I hope that Prey will, at the very least, make the 360 an essential purchase. On the technology side, because of the way Xbox Live is much more closely integrated with the system, I think Microshite might have a good lead on Sony. The difference between this and, say, the Dreamcast, is that the 360 had a good online infrastructure in place with the original Xbox and is probably more likely to succeed than the Dreamcast.
Of course, the PS3 probably will outsell 360, but that's only because it's a proven brand. PS2 is the world's best-selling console, and, yes, Blu-Ray will probably be a contributing factor to its success, but as Naomi Klein reminds us, the brand is more powerful than the product you're selling.

As for Sony, the playstation brand is strong, but it just doesn't have the money to compete with Microsoft. So Sony will probably be relaying on people staying loyal to the Playstation brand. Microsoft can throw money at the Xbox 360 and not dent it's bottom line. Whereas Sony is/was in a very bad position due to it's failure to spot the market in flat screen tvs and pricing their products out of most people's wallet ranges.
And any console lives or dies by the games.
Still the PS3 will probably be launched in Japan, then america. Europe will probably get it last.
